Princess Sparkle Pony

Well, my mom just gave me her 1998 cherokee 4x4 with 180,000 miles on it. Sort of like in high school, I've been cleaning and fixing it up... Washed it last night at 9:45 at night. Problem is, that I am a creaky 45 years old....

Anyhow, had to wash it because I had just used wax and grease remover all over it and that stuff seems to film up after you put it on. So I did the night time car wash.

I had to put the wax and grease cleaner on it, because I had been spraying the taped-off fender flares with multiple cans of paint for the last couple of days. The last cans of paint I used was duplicolor textured metallic graphite paint. I sprayed these on a windy day and when I peeled the tape and newspaper off I noticed a lot of sparkles on the teal green jeeps body... Thus the wax and grease cleaner.

I started off washing the fender flares, then putting on two coats of adhesion promoter, then I did two coats of Krylon Fusion satin but ran out. I didn't like the fusion initially because I had some runs in it and some blotchy raised surface areas, so I went to that textured stuff.

Anyhow, so now the fender flares, rear bumper, front bumper, front grill, headlight bezels and those two plastic bumper things behind the rear fender flares are all now a sparkly shade of grey. If someone can send me an e-mail I can shoot you a pic, if you can host it/post it for me.

So guess what? I'm getting ready to roll it into the garage and tape it all off again, and take off those parts and put a sheet over the car and spray it out of the wind with probably duplicolor bumper paint (because I have a can). Hoping I can get the sparkly gray textured finish back to black to match the tires... I don't mind the texture, just the gray/graphite color.

Those fender flares probably have more paint on them now than the car does... Anyhow, it's great to be 16 again and spend $75 on spray paint.

Sooo, it's good to experience your second childhood (said the 58 Y.O.)...but "Sparkle Pony"??

Not Rosie or Christine or Roxanne. Rainbow Bright?? Twinkle Toes? Good to have another "over 40" guy on the forum.

also, broke off both the front and rear CCV valves in the sparkle pony trying to change the damn valve cover out... last time i worked on a car engine was probably 1983... now i have to take the valve cover off again to make sure no pieces of plastic fell in. then i have to go to the squealership to get $20 of grommets and ccv valves. and i still don't know which bolts go in which holes around the valve cover, some are studs, some are bolts... once i get it running i can drive to the paint store to buy my 7th can of spray paint. then i need $900 to put a 3" BDS lift kit on it...

jeep ownership has been great so far. i wish i lived with my momma, maybe she would pay for some of this...

Well, Phil, if you are old enough to know what a Fairlane or Torino is, one would assume so.

Welcome aboard, K-R.
