Power windows not working

I have a '95 XJ. The drivers side window wasn't working, broken wire. So I fixed it and now none of the power windows will work. Pulling the little rubber piece off the back of the drivers control panel, I think the switches are fine. I have continuity between where the black wire connects and any one of the switches and when I engage the switch, I loose continuity. I then figured I wasn't getting power to the switch in the first place and so I used a circuit tester and I don't get any power to the switches when the ignition is on. The door lock switch is getting power but the windows aren't. I assume they are supposed to. I checked all the fuses and none were blown (the ones by the door and the ones in the engine compartment).

I'm guessing it isn't a broken wire in the door itself because the other doors don't work either. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks for any help!

my first guess was a blown fuse, but you said you checked those. Maybe a faulty ground somewhere? I would start chasing wires!

I had the same thing happen on my 89 XJ and turned out to be a broken ground in the driver's side door.

Being ignorant on wiring, would a broken ground at the drivers door keep the passenger door switches from working as well?

What's the best way to check the ground. Would a continuity tester would be involved?

Does the black wire coming into the switches at the door need to be hot? Also, anyone know which fuse to check? I pulled them all but perhaps I just missed it.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I figured it out. It was a fuse. Apparently, there was one fuse in my fusebox that was metal and I couldn't see if it was blown or not (perhaps it was a breaker fuse?). Replacing it, fixed the problem. Whoohoo! I have windows up before the rain/snow tonight!
