Power window (window lock malfunction) question
Does anybody have a problem with their power window lock on the driver's door? Specifically, sometimes when you turn the Jeep on, the switches won't work on any of the passengers doors, and the only way to remedy it is to press in the window lock button and hold it down for a few seconds and release it. Another solution is to bang on the side of the driver's door a few times, which usually fixes the loose connection.
Anyways, I'm just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. For the record, I own a 2000 Cherokee Sport. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have the exact same problem on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and I haven't been able to take apart the door panel to see what the deal is.
But if anyone knows a good fix it would be much appreciated before I dig into the problem. |

Sounds like the power lock out swith is going bad. Bad part is it's part of the whole switch panel. Jeep wants $141.00 for it.
You could try and see if it's just a loose connection.....

I know that is has to be something with the main control panel on the driver's side, because when I jiggle the main window switch it seems to cut in and out.
Everything works it just seems to short out every once in while, but jiggling fixes it. I was just looking for a more permanent fix. Thanks for the input |

You could try a switch cleaner or even some WD40... (Couldn't hurt)

yeah, i was just going to take the control panel off of the door there and see if a wiring connection is just slipping off and then ensure that i solidify it.
from all of the other posts, it seems this is a very common problem. sometimes a manual window is just so much better no mechanical parts to screw up..oh well. |

If Cleaning the switch doesn't work you could by pass the switch. You just have to figure out which wires have to be cut or spliced together. In the FAQ thread there is a FSM you can download it and find out which wires are for what.

Aaron, let me know what happens.
In terms of jiggling it, a better way to remedy the problem is to hold the window lock button down and press it in hard and let it out. You might have to do that twice (the first time will lock it in, the second time will unlock it), that usually does the trick for me. Let me know if you do ever find a fix, I just bought the Jeep, and it's just a little annoyance. |

I'm not sure if this would be a permanent remedy, but what fixed my intermittent locking and window problems before was the installation of relays (when I had Viper security installed). Apparently, it was just failing or *not enough power* going to the locks (a known problem of some Jeeps, especially earlier ones). Hope this helps!

same problem
I see I'm not the only one with this problem. It doesn't help that the switch assemblies are nearly impossible (and beyond my patience level) to get into without destroying them. I was all prepared to bypass the switch, but instead I solved the problem by blasting it with WD-40 (works great now, although who knows how long that will last). All I know is you can buy a lot of WD-40 for $141

My 2000 had the same problem. After reading here about the cost of a switch replacement, I bypassed the switch. Behind the drivers side kick panel(by your left foot) there is a connector c307. It has three wires: yellow, tan, black. Leave the wires connected to the connector but short (solder) the yellow and tan wires together. I stripped back some of the insulation on each one and twisted them together before I soldered them. The yellow and tan wires go to the bad switch. By shorting them together, the windows always work no matter if the switch is depressed or not. Make sure the wires are still plugged into the connector as it came from the factory. If you remove the wires from the connector, it will not work.
