Power cuts out when I turn the key to start it

I have no clue what could be causing this, but what happens is this:

I open the door and get in and put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Up to this point everything is normal (Dome light comes on, seat belt buzzer, radio powers up...). As soon as I turn the key to start the motor everything shuts down. All power is lost, everything goes dead. It doesnt even attempt to turn over. Its like a switch is thrown that just kills all the power. Up until I turn the key the power feels strong and normal.

The battery is fairly new and it did the same thing even when we tried to jump it off of another truck.

I have no clue on this one...

Battery terminal or connection needs cleaning, tightening, or replacing.
