Possible Engine Work

I was looking around in the newspaper to see if i could find an XJ for sale and found a 93 Cherokee for sale for 1000 bucks. I want to check it out on my next day off i hope i can atleast5 take a look at it but anyways my question. How hard is engine work on a l6? the add says that it may need a new engine. WOuld you guys recommend atleast thinking about it? Or would it be too expensive. I want to make this a trail jeep. SO what do you guys think?
Thanks

I wouldn't go $1000 for a XJ with a bad motor. A I6 is , in my opinion, no more troublesome that any other motor to work on.

The biggest issue I have with my 93 is the lack of room to really get in there and turn wrenches. It's not bad, but it could be better.

How much would you offer the dude for it and about how much do you think that it would cause if it did need repair? I want to check it out atleast . It might be something minor like in a bad need of a tune up? I thought my engine was going out did a tune up and runs great. so what do you think? Yay or Nay?

The I6 is a staunch motor and it takes some effort to ruin one. Having blown one up myself I know what it took to do it so I would wonder what has this jeep been through that it needs a new motor. If it's been beat or neglected enough to ruin the motor then repairing/replacing the motor might be the least of your worries as I would think other things are on the edge of failure as well.
