I wonder why the job is so expensive. Maybe the wires hide something special, like oompa loompa's that jump out and become spotters?

one of the reasons people like cherokees so much is that parts are cheap and they are very easy to work on. your step dad sounds like a moron

When we first bought my XJ it was running a little bit rough so the local Jeep dealer did plugs, wires, rotor, cap, air filter, and some spark knock TSB for right around $300, maybe $325. That was with all Mopar/OEM stuff too. |

I'd assume they are getting dealer parts for cost and charging you the dealer parts at mark up. Thne they are charging you labor and have a preset alotted time associated with it. ie you are paying for an hour wether it takes an hour or 30min.
Buy yourself a good plug socket and a mid length extention to go with the socket wrench you should have. You can get a set of Accel wires, cap, and rotor from Summitracing.com pretty cheap. They may even have set with plugs as well. Spend the cash on the plug wires. Inspect the cap and rotor and if they look okay don't replace them.
