Hi all. So I have been chasing a weird noise at low speed and a hwy speed vibration. So far I have replaced both front hubs and front gear fluid along with the pads and rotors which it needed anyway.
The first low speed noise sounds like a worn wheel bearing. Also I noticed a rattling coming from the 4x4 shifter. After reading posts here someone said to check the front driveshaft. So I pulled it and the noise still exists so its not that. Also while pulling the front shaft I noticed if I put even a little bit of pressure on the trans or transfer case I hear a squeaking which does not seem to be coming from the trans mount on the cross member.
The highway noise is more of a vibration at speeds over 50mph. If I let off or give it more gas the sound is the same as long as the jeep is rolling. All u joints seemed ok with no play. Maybe a small tad amount in the top one on rear driveshaft but was minimal. Are they supposed to be 100% solid? All noises and vibrations seem to be coming somewhere from the transmission tunnel area. I'm stumped and don't have the money to pay a shop hundreds of dollars to research it, and then possibly have a huge repair. Also I noticed lately when I pull away from stop it seems like the rear of the jeep comes down a bit with a little clunk. Almost like the driveshaft is angled up and then clunks on the way back down, but again the u joints "look good" how do I test them? Thanks again and sorry for the long post. Cheers.
