Pics of XJ's w/ Full Size Axles Requested

I recently acquired a rear Dana 60 and I was thinking about putting it in my beater XJ. I just want to see some other Jeeps doing the same thing so I can get an idea of what it's going to look like. Thanks guys.

uhm so you are going to dump a full width axle in the rear but leave a stock axle up front?the 60 is a boat anchor unless you plan on running 35's or bigger.i also notice you live in CT ,what are their tire and flares laws like.how far can you stick out before not passing inspection or being harassed by the local P.D.

i believe you need to think about this more then you have.

now on to what you asked for

here is a full width axle build up of a 44/60

now with the correct offset and flares you can almost make it under

does anyone know if The front axle out of an international scout is full width or is it about the same as the stock cherokee axle? I would like to have both front and rear D44's......

No no, I mean that I just got a Dana 60 for the rear. I'm in the process of finding a full width 1 ton for the front. I posted this thread to see what other people are doing with 1 tons. Hey Wil, what was the back-spacing of those wheels on your old Jeep? Thank you for the build link.

well you still aren't thinking this fully through.the problem with dropping a 1 ton axle up front (which would be a 60) is a weight issue.if you are looking for a front 60 it would have to be out of a 78/79 Ford F350.this would make it a high pinion as well as the correct side drop.now if you plan on putting a dana 300 case or something else in to make it passenger side drop then it would have to be out of a chevy or dodge.

now we are back to the weight issue.with all that weight you will tear the Xj in half with out fully plating the uni-frame.it just can't take that kind of stress.even a full width 44 is asking to much of the front half of the vehicle.this is why i chose a 44 for my build .

this is what i found while tearing it down .this is from the added weight of the front axle and tires(look closely between the windshield post and hood)

Xj just aren't up to the task as far as i'm concerned with out major revamping of the frame system.

now as for the back spacing i was running 5" backspacing.with anything more then 4 and 3/4 you will have to have arms that bend in pretty good or you will have rubbing issues during full steer.

Thanks Wil for the advice. I'm not planning on doing it overnight. I plan on basicall making a buggy derived from an XJ. There's going to be tube everywhere, haha. It looks like you really drove that thing to death to get stress cacks like that. Thanks again for pics. I look forward to seeing the TJ in action. - Ben

well i'm sure you have heard it and read it a hundred times here..........go to NAXJA register and start searching there for things to do to make this happen .its the best place for information on XJ and how to beef them up ,truggy them out ,and make it happen.this forum is just a waste of time for such question .

Here's a couple of mine, disregard the crappy steering in the front, it's since been upgraded with dedenbear knuckles, BTF high steer arms, and a hydro assist. The axles are a ford 9" and a hp44.
