If you want better flow you can simply drill a 2in hole(s) in the front of the airbox. Seems to change the tone of the exhaust a bit.

I did the MAD XJ stock modified airbox.
The rectangle flanges are off of an old full size cherokee at the junkyard. The rectangle to 3" round adapters are from a 4cyl AMC XJ. The round tube is from the parts store, 8.99. I patched up the old hole in the front of the airbox with some scrap sheet metal, RTV, and bolts. Cut a hole in the firewall with a dremel and sawzall. Cut a hole in the airbox and screwed/RTV'd the flange on. You can really hear it whistle on cold mornings. As long as the water is under my wipers, I'm good. A nice bonus is my Jeep no longer sucks hot engine air into the airbox. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

can this be done with just round peices to go into the firewall and airbox rather than rectangular (cuz i have some of them sitting around)? Or is the rectangular one better fit for the air boxes?

The rectangle fit my box well. If you had a flange that was a circle instead, as long as it fit on the airbox tight, I'm sure it would work.

Hey, about the "snorkle" that vents out of the wiper box (where the wiper motor is) I didi the same Mod and i loved it in the summer! but there are 2 things that i want to throw out there. 1. make sure you cut a couple more holes to drain the wiper box! i just used a half inch bit and put like 3 in. and 2: in the winter ( i live in wisconsin) the wiper box vents get covered in snow and ice. on mine the wiper box actually filled with ice! i had to disconnect it inside the engine compartment because it was starved for air and when i started it it would suck and loose snow into the intake!
Just a little heads up. but as soon as the snow is gone i am hooking it back up though! |
