part time 4wd problems

Hey guys,

im having some problems with my 4.0 99xj when i engage into 4wd. Im getting some bad chatter in the steering wheel and the car pulls VERY hard to the left or right under acceleration and is basically undrivable in 4wd. Its the same with 4wd low too. Also its very stubborn to change back into 2wd and usually gets stuck in 4wd for a bit.

Im wondering if anyone has experienced this type of problem and is this is more likely a transfer case problem or a front diff problem. I have a parts car with both but im hoping transfer case because that swap is alot easier.

thanks in advance

id also like to mention that i tested the diff by raising the left side of the car off the ground and spinning the rear tire.

with the tranny in N the tires spin in the same direction, but when i put the car in 1st the back tire will not spin. I have read this means something is broken but i am not sure what.

Part Time

Just wanted to see if your thinking Part time means you can engage 4WD on asphalt or a hard pack surface. Part time means your about to fight a mud hole or some slick surface.
