Question Part time 4WD Light..and others

I've only had my 1990 cherokee 4 door for a few months, so I'm still learning all about it. The light on the dash that tells you what 4 WD option you are in is STUCK in the on position..always telling me I'm in "part time 4WD. I haven't been 4 wheeling in it, but I have run it thru all the gear positions..4 low 4 high etc. Nothing changes this light, and no others come on (like 4 high).. Is this a stuck button or detent or some such thing? How do I track it down? And......is this something I can fix myself?? Thanks in advance for any help you can give the newbie.

Probably just a shorted/stuck position sensor. And there is no "4 high" light, just Part Time, and if you have Select-Track, Full Time.

Thanks Tomguy.....not sure

which I have, but my selector says... 2WD .. 4 Part Time... 4 Full Time... and 4 Low and it would appear that there are indicators for these along the left side of the dash. The "part time 4WD light is the one stuck on. and I've never seen the others..You are probably right about it being a stuck or shorted position sensor, but where is the little bugger? Is there anything I can clean , spray , adjust or thump to correct the problem?? IF I knew where to start I'd be one up on the parts guy when I call him..I'd hate to pay someone to fix this if I can do it my self. Thanks for your help!!

The position sensor is on the front differential on top of the center disconnect. Also check your module and the vacuum lines to it.

Thanks

Thanks Williak... That gives me a good place to start tracking it down. I will crawl under the jeep this weekend and see what there is to see.
