Overseas models different then the US?

Hi guys,
Got myself a 94 XJ last month. Here in NZ most of the older XJ's around are 2nd hand imports from Japan. Mine had a Honda stock radio, floormats with Honda labels and quite a bit of Japanese writing on the chassis labels.

A search on the VIN points at it having still been made in Toledo. There are also other small differences, one is that it still has the Power / Comfort button which from browsing this forum sounds like it had been eliminated in the 91 + US models.

Before I start tearing this and that off the jeep, does anybody know of any other difference? Is it essentially a 91 model made in 94 and how could I tell?

P.S. New 2004 Cherokee's are still being sold here (Liberties?) with a very American T.V. advert, yet they can't be brought in the US?

Welcome to the forum!

I don't have the answers for you but I do know one place you can look. There are a lot of international Cherokees on http://www.cherokee-fr.com/ including some Japanese guys with XJs.

And even though they call Liberty's "Cherokees" overseas, they are a completely different vehicle and shouldn't be considered a remodel or redesign of the XJ. Damn DC...

Anything that says honda was added by the former owner. It could be that yours was made by Bejing jeep...although you say the vin says Toledo. The power/comfort switch was not removed in '91, it lasted up until '97, although some of the pre 97's don't have the switch. I don't know why...
