Does anyone have a diesel Cherokee w/an automatic? If so what transmission is behind it?

I looked through the parts catalog and they only mention the 904 trans. The catalog mentions desiel and European as well, so I would speculate that's the trans.

I went to the parts house today and an 87 2.1L Cherokee (the year that the 2.1 and AW4 overlapped) was offered with an aw4. Now I just have to find out more info like where can I buy a torque converter, and how can I get my tranny to shift automatically behind a different diesel? (I know I can get a manual shift kit but auto would be nice) Furthermore are there any other modifications that need to be made to the tranny?

Well, that woudl explain it. I didn't know what year you had so I refrenced the 84-86 years.

As far as shifting is concerned, the TPS and the kick down (aka Throttle Value cable) will be what sest the shift points and builds up line pressure. If they use the same TPS you will be golden.

There shouuld be some sort of tag on the trans somewhere. Crawl under there and start cleaning that sucker till you find some maker info or serial numbers.
