Original ALTERNATOR, 194 thousand miles.

Anyone else? Should I replace it for "Peace of mind"??

My Jeep had ZERO maintenance done on it before I got it. In fact, it was rather ABUSED...Now, Ive got all the bugs worked out of it, and I have replaced EVERYTHING but the original alternator.

I figure, things like starters, water pumps, clutches, brakes, etc, all wear out in due time, but my ALTERNATOR still charges like a champ, doesnt squeal, has no play in the bushings......

Is it NORMAL for a Jeep alternator to go this long, or am I sitting on a breakdown waiting to happen at this mileage???

Thanks!

buy a high output alternator and either wait for it to go out or just replace.... completely up to you, either way it's an upgrade.

My alternator is dying and a quick ebay search yielded some good looking results on both new and remanufactured alternators with many different amperage ratings.

But in your case, I might scout out a good deal on a nice one and just hold on to it. No need to do unnecessary work.

the alt is made by denso in tn. if the alt has never "worked hard" such as charging a fully discharged battery or powering a mega boom boom stereo, they have been known to go 300,000 with as little as a brush change.

if it aint broke i would leave it alone. the piece of junk you are liable to get from autozone or like store in no way compares to a denso unit in quality.

p.s. if you really feel like you need to do something to it take it to a local elec shop and have them freshen it up. that will be way more reliable than your big box part stores.

Thats pretty good for a alternator in my book...
Im a contractor who uses a 90 toyota work truck as my daily driver.
Runs like a top, and looks good for its age, but recently the alternator went out so I pulled it to get a new one...
I noticed it was the original......

It went 242k

"if it aint broke, dont fix it" Plus if it is the original its gona run longer and better than any re-man'd aftermarket units.
