Ol Blue Build
I picked up an '88 4 door XJ in mid March as a new project. I'm just now getting to making a thread about it because I have been a bit busy lately.
The jeep was a bit rough when I got it, but still a solid base for a project. The reason I got it was because I didn't want to go too extreme on my daily driver, my 2000 XJ... and it's a 5 speed. This is my mall-crawlin 2000 ![]() ![]() and here is the '88 when I bought it ![]() ![]() I bought it for $500 from a 16 year old that swore it had a V6, and that the transmission needed to be replaced. Turns out all it needed was a clutch and a little wiring work here and there. ![]() So... I started collecting parts ![]() ![]() Stage one for this is basically a 4.5 lift, 33x12.5 tires, 3.55 axles out of a '98 and some other odds and ends. While I was collecting parts I couldn't resist getting started on one of the other mods I had planned for the '88 ![]() I have completed the lift and axle swaps, more pics to follow.

Eee boy those 88 leafsprings are sagged something fierce. Or maybe it's the camera angle. Either way, I'll be checking in on this build

on your 00, did you trim your flares, or did you just rip off the junky stock ones and leave it at that?

The stock flairs actually kept popping off when I was off road so I took them off. I'm still undecided on what I'm going to do about that. Hopefully, now that I've put the GC wheels I have on the 2000 everything will clear.

I don't really have any plans right now for the 88 other than driving it. I'm toying with caging and chopping it this winter, but I think I'll probably do lockers and steering first. All of these things take money though so we'll see when it actually happens.

Rusty's: 4.5 Coils and full leaf spring packs.
Rough Country shocks an adjustable track bar I had leftover from another build (maybe Rusty's) Soft Brake lines are all aftermarket for a YJ Axle shims I believe are from Rustys. Mainly rustys I guess lol

Those ZJ wheels look really good on the 2000. The '88 looks nice too. Wish I had two XJs

Thanks, I actually got those wheels from a buddy of mine a few years back. He didn't have alot of money and needed some work done on his ZJ so I traded him labor and my steelie wheels for his alloy ones. I've always really liked them with that color of XJ.
