Thanks for the great post! Just got a 3.5 RE lift and instantly vibrations at 40-50 mph, "labored" acceleration, and mpg dropped by a third. TC drop and axle shims already done. I'm a newb, got a lot to learn, but I think I'm on the right track now.

Im about to do a HD SYE kit on my 96, Ive read the thread like 3 times and am still trying to figure out whether or not a stock front ds will bolt directly up to my tc with the hd kit installed? Is it just the Hack n tap kits that require the 1310 centering yoke to fit the ds? Do all sye kits require you to purchase the spice flange to hook up a stock ds?

Which SYE are you getting? I got the AdvanceAdapters kit and a front driveshaft bolted right up with no problems. The flange that comes with the kit is exactly the same as the one one the front output shaft.

Yea I saw you post before that you got yours from aa, they have it pretty cheap, Im definitely planning on getting it from there. Did you find your front ds fairly easy? The junkyards around me have them from like $75, I guess that sounds about right. Well anyways thanks for the help dcorn, any chance your going to be at the Wheel In at Oak Ridge this year?

hello I'm interested in doing the hack and tap sye. is there a write up on this because only half the links on the first page work also besides the drive shaft i would only need the flange from spicer?
does some one make a new shaft that you can just drop in because i will probably rebuild my t.c. when i do this.

Hopefully someone can answer this for me...

I searched, and came up with as many questions as answers. lol I have a guy locally selling a front Drive Shaft off of a 1989 Cherokee. I have a 2000 and am installing an AA SYE (as stated in here already). I have asked if it is an auto... and for some measurements, but I am not certain that an older DS will work in a later model XJ anyhow?

I need to know...

The front DS that will work for my Cherokee by model year (89??)? I have a Dana 30, Chryco 8.25, NP231 and an AW4 auto. I understand that it may need to be lengthened, and that it "may" need a rebuild. I haven't seen it yet so I am not sure of the condition.

Help... any advice will help.

I have a 94 zj 4" rough country and I have swap out the 249 for a 242 i'm looking to do a sye. i hear alot of people saying the front ds from a zj will work in the back but mine is shorter than my rear ds. Did I miss something or does my zj require a longer shaft and if i put my front ds back in it vibrates and it turns all the time. Pinion angles are straight with the ds front and back I have tried up to 1.25" tcase drop. I'm also looking for a hub conversion any suggestion this is my first post. the 242 is a 2001 model??? with a 96 zj main shaft to get a speedo gear. the 242 says (on the tag) 242 wj it is the one with a sealed main shaft and exposed slip yoke please help not my dd but my ride of choice thanks great thread

As long as it comes from an Auto you are fine.

I just ordered the iro hack in tap i believe if i have the front shaft lengthened it should work shouldn't it. I'm i going to run into problems doing this on a 242 with dana 35?
