Not sure if this thread really helped me out with my install, but all the writeups online definitely did. It was quite a process to get everything installed and put back together correctly, but it seems like its all working fine. I bought a used front driveshaft and all the u-joints and CV center section to rebuild it, but for some reason, the last u-joint in the CV doesn't want to go on. I am certain the parts are correct but its not fitting so I had to use my front driveshaft in the rear and I'm running with no front at the moment. Also, when I filled up the TC with fluid, it barely took more than a quart, even with the XJ on a flat surface. I thought the capacity was 2 quarts.

How is the u-joint not fitting?

Haha, thanks for the fluid quantities, makes me feel better.
I have no clue what is up with the driveshaft. I put the first u-joint in the CV end in fine. When I install the new spicer part that is the center of the CV joint, then try to put the other u-joint in the TC yolk side of the CV, I can't get the caps on. It's like the center section of the CV won't completely go together. No idea, I fooled with it for at least an hour.

When I did mine, there was a little rubber cap in the ball, that had a little spring and a bunch of grease in it, that I had to remove(leaving the spring in the ball), did you do that?

Yeah, I believe so. I got the spicer CV part and it had a small cardboard tube holding the spring in. I took that out so everything fit together well. I'm going to try and pull it all apart and install the u-joint that I'm having trouble with first, then the inner.

Maybe there is a bit of a difference in doing one with a yoke type CV vs a flange type CV like i did, mine went together pretty easily.

Hey, I called napa about getting the spicer part number 211229X for the hack and tap when using a front xj driveshaft and they wanted like 80 bucks. Anyone know of a parts store chain that sells em for cheaper? I was thinking I'd try calling advance auto and a few others but if someone knows where they are cheaper I'd appreciate it. Or someplace online?
