Nice looking roof rack, but outrageous price! Gobi rack on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GOBI-JEEP-CHEROKEE-XJ-ROOF-SAFARI-RACK-W-TIRE-CARRIER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33651QQitemZ804 5166269QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

i searched this forum for gobi but nothing came up, so i don't know if anyone on here has this, but for that price, i doubt it. looks great, but seems like it could be built or made from another rack wayyyy cheaper. i understand it probably cost a lot for the steel and it comes with the lightbar and tire carrier, and that is the price shipped, but it still seems very expensive.

looks great on those jeeps though.

Buy It Now price: US $1,249.95 ?!??!?! WOW

Nice lookin rack though. I'd rather spend the $250, or whatever, on the Surco rack. Which is what I plan on doing

Gobi makes a lot of Hummer racks. That seems to be what they are known for. That's probably why they charge so much.

Here is a pic of the rack. It is a lot more complicated than what we are used to. I am sure that adds to the cost. It is still awfully expensive though.

I would take the Gobi way over the Hannibal. I think that thing is just ugly. To each his own, I guess.

hopefully, if you're putting anything on your roof, you secure it down properly instead of relying on the front of the basket

I just picked up my rack yesterday from Blackout. I really like it. I paid $340 plus $65 for shipping for a 48x60x6 square steel rack. I passed on the Highlift bracket and the tire mount. As much as I wanted those options, that would have gotten a little expensive.

All of the other racks I looked at were around $399 and were smaller. This one fits perfect. As soon as I throw some paint on it I'll take some pics!

Gobi makes pretty nice stuff actually, and yes, they're primary market in the US is H2's. The rack in the pic is a specific H2 roof rack, it is NOT the XJ roof rack. I didn't even know Gobi made anything BUT H2 racks though...

The Hannibal rack is nice too, they've got a pretty good rep overseas I think. Just depends on what exactly you're looking for in a safari rack.

Right, it's an H2 rack but the Cherokee pictured has basically the same rack on it. It has the spare tire cut out thing. I just posted it to show that there is a lot more to the Gobi racks than say, an ARB or Surco that we are used to looking at.
