New to XJ's (Still reading stickies)

Hey Everyone,
My girlfriend got a 1999 XJ and of course the first thing she wants to do is lift it, and make it her own (so every mod under the sun).
Now, when it comes to Grand Cherokee's I could do that in a heart beat (I own a '97 Limited). Sadly with XJ's I'm a little lacking in the knowledge department.
If I were to piece together a 2.5-3 in kit what would it entail? And would I be able to do it for 500-600?

Thanks guys back to the stickies for me,

-Kyle

I think that before spending money on lift, you (she?) should consider what is the aim or the lift and what tire size you want there.
Also, are you going to do some off-road with it or not?
I'm pretty happy with my RE super flex 3.5", but it is stiff on the road.
2-2.5" is the best value for money in my opinion.

She is looking for a mall crawler, just for cosmetics. but I plan to take it off-roading. Since this is replacing my build.
Moderate, nothing to extreme though. So like a 2-3 inch, and probably 30-31's.
Im looking to spend 500-600. But I know I'm just wishing lol. I have been told XJ's are cheaper to work on then my ZJ though.

For less than $500 you can put ZJ coils and a spacer on the front for 3"+/- and a new 3" spring pack on the rear. Of course anything over that you'll need more parts (adj. control arms, SYE, track bar etc) and that $500 will be a distant memory. Then of course some 31" tires for another $600.
