New Starter Sounds Wrong

The starter on my 2000 Cherokee Sport 4.0 Automatic died yesterday, and I bought a new one to replace it myself. Had no trouble removing and installing, everything fits snug. However, every time I've started it it makes this awful whirring sound and briefly a grinding noise, but starts without any problem. Like I said, I've checked and everything fits correctly and is very tight. What's going on? Is something wrong with the flywheel?

Video? It would help greatly. You could have many issues with it.

Not sure about the grinding sound but when I rebuilt my starter with new solenoid. brushes and bendix (starter gear) it sounded funny for a week or so before settling down.

The starter gear might not be lined up with the fly wheel, sometimes shims are necessary to line the starter up perfectly.

It was like that on my WJ, grinding and no turn over, without a few shims.
