Gotchya, so out of the 4 jeeps youve owned, the CJ was your favorite so far?

A friend of mine owns one, and i would love to have one. Probably wayyy down the line though, nothing in the near future. As funds dont allow for it and im happy with my XJ. But the other side of the fence makes me wonder if i made a mistake getting an XJ instead of a CJ or a TJ or YJ.

The CJ was my favorite, but driving it to the beach on a 4 hour drive in 100* heat is not my idea of fun. Having said that, I loved poking around town in it. The cool factor of an old CJ can not be beat. Obviously the next one I get will be a toy for me, not a daily driver.

Just a little update. I ordered a lift to replace my suspension components with the budget I have and should install it next week. I bought the RC 3" lift with leaf springs. I have read all reviews, good and bad, so I know what lies ahead. This is how my XJ looks today.

The lift is finally on and it fought me every step of the way. I also had to order discos since the sway bar connectors broke.

Reviving this thread to add a little more info.

I sold this jeep on May 31st, 2013. I very much made an impulse buy as I bought a Scion FR-S the same day. I knew I was, and always will be, a Jeep guy.

Fast forward to today. I still have the FR-S. My dad decided he no longer wanted his 1996 Cherokee since he had a Ford F 150 and a VW for daily driving duties. So he signed the title over to me. That is a huge surprise, considering I'm 39 years old and he's never gave/helped me get a vehicle. Ever.

So, I'm back in the Jeep game. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

So here it is. 1996 XJ Sport. 4.0, auto, 4x4, and H4 conversion done by me over a year ago. 199500 miles. Ill need to figure out why there is so much play in the steering. Also, there is a shift happening in the rear when I first accelerate from a stop. I don't know if it needs new shocks or new suspension components. I will be doing a mild lift as this will be daily driver/hunting/camping vehicle, and I wont be wheeling too often anyways. Whenever it dries up outside Ill scoot under it to see whats going on. It will help keep the miles off of the FR-S big time.

Unless that is a really elaborate custom job, that is not a 96. That is either a 97 or a 98.

You're correct. I didn't catch the typo. It's a '97.
