New to Jeep

Recently purchased a '99 Sport with 47,000 miles.Runs excellent, lousy gas mileage, few hail dents but all together ,very satisfied as far as price and drivability. Are there any heads up,s or problem areas I should be aware of and does any have any info on trouble shooting as far as electrical ? I have been looking at this site for some months and chose to participate due the apparent vast amount of knowledge among the users.Any info shared is appreciated.

Make sure there are no stored codes.

Remove and clean the Throttle Body.

Give her a tune up.

Enjoy.

Define "Lousy Gas Mileage"

Not like that Honda you used to own

If you're somewhere in the 16-19 crowd you're average.

Been gone for a while.... Gas Mileage: Maybe 10-12.New plugs, rotor.Kept under 2000 RPM on "normal city driving" Ive used seafoam as I do in my HD also..No stored codes.Runs great except for 1 "no start" on a cold morning.Just cranked and I ended up giving it some pedal and it was good to go.My main questions are there any quirks or problem areas in this year ? The engine appears to be very strong.Also.Does the front end have shocks or struts ? They appear to be just shocks.Im sure with 50,000 miles on it now,its ready for a change.Thanks.Im ok on the site now.

No mods ie...big tires, lifts,.Bone stock.Wires, plugs, rotor and cleaned fuel injectors and drive moderately.Rarely do over 65 and keep under 2000 rpms in town and .still not consistent. No doubt driving conditions make the big difference. When the ambient temp is very warm, good, cold ,not good.I think it sat more than being driven by previous owners.Just now loosening up .I was quite surprised to have gotten 22 on my last road trip..no a/c used, speed was just below 70 most of the time with the cruise on.

My biggest problem was the door trim strips staying down..tried all kinds of glue and ended up using upholstery screws onthe ends

they are coils with shocks in the front, and leafs with shocks in the rear. wy didnt you just look under your jeep

if your going to upgrade your shocks why not go with a small lift?

and about the only thing ive learned is to keep dirt/water out of the engine compartment, water = lots of money

Goo Gone(off) works great for residue left from tape! A little goes a long way and I try not to leave it on the paint long.

Just removed my faded trim this past weekend. Most of the double sided tape peals off without much problem and the residue cleans off with some bug and tar remover. The tape peeled off the easiest about midday when it was the warmest with the sun warming the side of the jeep.

Also Gas milage 16-17 mixed driving for both my Jeeps.

You could try some monroe sensa-trac shocks they are pretty good.
Some things to keep an eye on is your exhaust manifold, they tend to crack near the collector. Water in your passenger floorboard (good luck finding the leak)
For the MPG like others have said, anywhere from 15-20 is about average. Since its new to you I would suggest changing all the fluids.
