Hello from michigan everyone.
Ok, Ill get right into it. Im a member of the cherokee forums also, but im not getting much help. Here is my issue
99 jeep cherokee 4.0, I dont drive it a whole lot. It sits 4 days out of 7.
about a week ago i went to use it, and it wouldnt start. It cranks and cranks but wont fire.
On my 2nd or 3rd attempt to start, I give it gas as if it had a carb. It fires up but runs like craps for about 15 seconds. When I let off the gas the rpms drop to 300ish and then slowly rises to 600-700 (normal rpms)
The volt gauge shows cranking at about 9v
It did this before about 5 months ago, shop cleaned throttle body and all sensors, turned out it was a fuel pump. So I put a new one in at that point
Well here we are 5 months down the road, doing it all over again. Shop again says sensors are fine, fuel pressure is good, and they couldnt find anything wrong with it (jeep was working fine when we dropped it off of course)
about a month ago, pulling into my garage, my jeep almost died. The lights went dim, volts dropped to 3 or 4 and then slowly came back. Never died but came close. Hasnt done it since.
Bringing my jeep away this past sunday, my fiance was driving it there with me following behind im my truck. She said about a mile from my house it started to spit and sputter and wouldnt go over 40mph.
She stopped for the stop sign, as soon as she took off it ran great the whole way there she said.
The conclusion they came up with is my battery is 3 years old and showing signs or wear. They said my jeep lost charge from sitting and thats why it wont start or idle. It "forgot" how to run basically is what im picking up on
I think is the cps acting up, but they said it checked out fine.
Could it be what they said it is or not?
sorry for the long winded post, trying to fill you in on what is going on
