I'm looking to buy a set of nerf bars for my Cherokee and I know someone whose selling a set but it belongs to a Gran Cherokee. Will they fit a cherokee of similar year?

I doubt that they are interchangeable unless they are the type that only bolt to the frame rail and nothing else. Some types, like rock rails, also bolt to the pinch seam so the distance between the pinch seam and frame rail would have to be equal for them to work. If you want the "nerf bars" your friend is selling, tell him you'll buy them only if they fit and have him take them off and you can do a test fit to see if everything lines up.

Having said all that, it is my opinion that "nerf bars" are not really good for anything unless you like the looks. A real "rock rail" would not only be more functional but most of them look good too.
