Need your opinion on this snorkel setup

Honest opinions needed. Does this look funny at all?

It's just placed on the cowl, not set up yet. I'm trying to find a good spot but have very limited options due to the hood hinges blocking the way through the cowl to the edge of the windshield.

It looks great but is it a cool air intake or a snorkel? I would say it has limited use as a snorkel because one good wave across the hood and it's game over! Snorkels go high for a reason. You don't have to try too hard to be upto the hood in water.

It's a heck of a lot better looking than most of the home made ****-pipe snorkles I've seen.

It's both. It brings in cold air and does a HECKUVA lot better than the factory intake behind the grill. I never had a wave above my hood. I'm smart enough to test the depths prior to becoming a submarine.

thank you. I'm trying to make it low profile and fit the xj's body style, hence the......cereal bowl.

I really want it on the edge at the corner of the windshield but it's just not possible. It looks best there but.....oh well.

I think it looks fine right where you have it. Keep us updated on how this goes, because I'm seriously considering doing exactly what you're attempting here.

my cowl snorkel is under the cowl and actually doesn't peak out like that. I like you wanted it off to the side more but couldn't do to interference. So i decided to keep it under to cowl panel. I've been quite surprised at how protected it is there. unless i'm submerged above my cowl it stays dry without issue. And if i'm submerged above my cowl i have other problems at that point.

This was probably the first thing i did to my jeep after purchasing it in march of this year. The sucking sound through the hvac vent after first start up is a little annoying at first but after a while you don't even notice it anymore.

I dont think it looks bad at all. I actually wrote something on here before about the exact same setup, trying to imitate a military HMMWV intake. I haven't attempted it, but like you said there is a lot of crap in the way. Hey if you like it, go for it. A lot of people will talk crap, or whatever on mods they dont have or agree with 100% but in the end its your vehicle. Just dont put a spoiler or something on it! lol

a snorkel is meant to be higher than that, really you are not gaining much there since it is only a few inches higher than the stock air box

I'm deaf so there won't be any sucking sounds.

It's only a few inches? It's like a foot and 1/2 taller and 4 feet back from the original spot. The stock air box opening is below the headlight behind the grill. Just submerging your bumper risks getting water sucked in. i don't drive through oceans. It's mainly for splash and occasional deep crossings where you never know when a dip is under the water and you end up deeper than you thought. And if I get in water enough to reach that snorkel, the intake would be the least of my worries.
