Need new front shocks...

So, went to pepboys today and they confirmed my fears (they had a free brake check). Cracked drums in back, dying pads up front, swaybar linkage shot to hell, and to top it off, front shocks are leaking.

I don't have time to do the brakes, and that's a biggie, so that'll be done tomorrow. I have a break coming up, so I'll do the shocks and linkage.

So, what shocks should I get? It's all stock, 2001 I6 4.0L right now, but I want a BB with some 30s on it later. Any recommendations?

OME (Old Man Emu) shocks! Ride great on road and absorbs very well off road at high and low speeds. Heavy duty and no fade with heavy use. My Jeep rides better than stock with em. Much better than Rancho 5000s. I ran those back when. They were crap. You can expect great quality from OME. After all they are a product of ARB.

Where's the best place to buy them? Any specific recommendations? Gas or not?

Northridge4x4 is a great place to buy. Top notch customer service and Dave is a great guy to work with. OMEs are gas nitrocharger shocks. One of the best out there.

IMHO, don't bother with OME now. Just get some Sensatracs or Reflex until you are ready to lift. Seems like a lot off ppl "plan" on a BB or minimal lift until they get to it, and wind up going bigger. What's the point of springing for OME now if you're going to alter your suspension in the near future?

^ i put skyjackers on my stock xj. They were great. I would recommend hydros though. I got nitros and they were really really stiff. I hear that hydros are much softer.

Sweet...right now I'm mainly using it on road trips, so comfort is much more important...

The have front shocks for lift 0-3 and back shocks for either 0" or 1-3"...can I get 1-3" on the back and be OK...it's all stock, FYI...

I have the Monroe Reflex shocks on my 00 and they are a big time improvement over the stock ones. I am very happy with them. Phil
