my radio antenna

Hey guys,

My antenna wire is bad that goes to my radio. I open up the hood and it doesn't look like you can even get to it. Does anyone know of an easy way to realce the antenna assy?

I think you can get to it by removing the inner fender well stuff and by removing the passanger kicker panel. Mines exposed becasue neither of those tow thigs are there on my rig anymore. Hope this helps

Are we talking your Cherokee here? If so on my 96 there's a connection behind the plastic cover at the passanger's feet. It goes through the body behind that panel also.

So are you saying that I can take off a cover on the passenger side and the antenna wire connects to the antenna there? What do you mean by there's a connection there? Is it easy to get to?

Thanks

While cleaning my newly aquired 96 xj I had the panels off to remove the carpet. There was a connector that was appart. It's not like anything I've seen on a antenna lead before. One lead went through the side to the antenna and the other went up to the radio. My xj had it's radio stollen before I got it and so I didn't know there was a problem with it. My connector wouldn't stay together, it's spring loaded, so I put a tie wrap around it. Easyiest way to see what I'm talking about is remove the panel. The panel has places for two screws but mine only had one screw holdong it on. When putting it back on make sure you don't pinch any wires.

A semi-truck side swiped me with the butt-end of it's load and removed my antenna (among other damage). I've never gotten around to replacing it, so I can tell you (at least for an '87) that the reception is very iffy and weak without an external antenna. As best I can tell, I have to be within 20 miles of a strong radio station to receive the broadcast - and any interference wipes out even that limited reception.

Thats where I am at right now. I can get a signal when I am withing a few miles of the locale radio station but after that forget it. I installed a new antenna mast but it didn't help
