This looks like an awesome build! Keep up the good work! I always wanted to cut one up like this. Looks as sick as I had imagined!

got some more done this afternoon

i replaced the metal i cut out with 3 inch angle iron. i think its 3/8 thick which is a little to thick but i was laying around the shop so i got it for free.

the idea is that i am going to do the same thing on the other side and have the tailgate sit in between them

i know the welds arent pretty but that is the first thing i myself have welded on the jeep. all the rest was done by my freinds who went away to college. plus it was hard to weld that thin sheetmetal to the thick angle iron. o and flux core is always ugly. its strong though.
i dont think i did to bad

got the other side welded up

i just placed the tailgate in there so i could show u guys how it fits in between....

any advice on mounting the hardware such as hinges and slammers?
i was just gonna kinda eye it up and guess and adjust and adjust and adjust till its right but i dont really know how its done.

i might try to make a template or something.

class go canceled tonight so i decided to throw the front clip on and make sure i didnt need anything else before i took my weekly trip to the u pullit. everything went on good.
i am planning on "shaving" the side marker lights and using the markerlights on the tj flares i got.
one of the fenders i got was in pretty bad shape from the rollover. i managed to wack it out pretty good. i was gonna buy a new fender but i think with some body filler this will be good enough.

I can appreciate you doing your own work and I know this is only a cheap $300 project jeep but those welds on the tailgate brackets are horrific. Flux core sucks but you can make nice welds if you practice. Plus, 3/8" plate welded to sheetmetal? That should fail and rip off within about 8 minutes on a hard run.

Wow.......

i dont have a lot of practice with welding or fabrication at all. if it fails i will simply redo it better later on. i think it will be fine. its 3/8 angle iron but thee plate is not id say that plate is only a little thinker than the body.
all the metal i am working with was givin to me.
