My hood vent install
Couple of guys around my area have done the hood vents. I'm not sure how much it'll actually help, but they do look neato.
first off I was going to do all my measurements and cutting from the top I messed around with that for two hours before I decided I coulden't get the measurements as precise as I wanted them. I chose to take the hood into the garage I ended up making a template out of a few sheets of 8.5x11 computer paper. I laid it over the bottom of the vent and rubbed it with a pencil to get the outline I wrote this on here when I went to the store to get saw blades. I really wasen't sure weather I wanted to be cutting holes in my shiny hood Guess I did want to. I just used a plain old Jig Saw with metal blades. EricsXJ used a grinder and he said he had problems with paint chipping. Trust me, the jig saw is worse. It ruined the edges around the cuts. Luckily the vents stick over far enough you can't tell it's chipped. I just taped and primered where the paint chipped away. I also made my cuts a bit small on purpose so I could trim them out to make the vents fit. Better too small than too big! This is just the top after the cuts were made: I washed the hood down with soap and water and put a coat of wax over everything. It got too dark, so I don't have any pictures with the vents in yet. They do look great though, and the heat really pours out of them when the engine is warmed up.

Kairo,
That looks like it worked out great! Where did you get the vents and what are they made of? Plastic? Metal or what? How did you end up attaching them to your hood? Looks like something I would love to do to my Jeep! Great Job! |

Vents are off of a Chrysler Lebarron. They are held on with angled tabs of metal. (the vents have 4 screw holes on top) Check out www.ericsxj.com for an excellent writeup on how to install them

so what happens when it rains or snows? wont the engine bay get soaked and arent the electrical components kind of comprimised when that happens? I dont know how much rain you guys get but I can see one wet engine out here in VT. Do the vents have some way to block water from getting in?

Yeh I put mine in last weekend without drip vents and it has been raining pretty hard for the past week except today and the Jeep starts up fine every time. Everyone that I know that has done this mod without drip pans have not had any water issues.
