My '98 build thread
Figured I'd be like everyone else and post up a build thread.
Bought my Jeep stock, jan of 2006 with 68k on it. Drove it home and started looking at lift kits. Before lifting it I went to the badlands, and had alot of fun on bald tires. Hardly new what I was doing. ![]() Then, I decided to lift it. ordered up a rustys 3" aal kit and 31"x10.5" kuhmo mt's ![]() ![]() The night of my high school graduation I added some c4x4 towhooks so I would be ready to go wheelin the next morning. That was a rough trip, since I had to get up early after the "celebrations". ![]() July of '06 I added a zactacal roof rack with 4 PIAA fog/driving lights, and C4x4 double tube rock sliders December '06 I added a JVC cd player, complete with IPOD controls. (nothing special) It also got a skid row t-case skid On a wheelin trip to the badlands in '06 I got a little bit of trail rash from the orange trail. I was trying to manuever through some tight trees, and one decided to take a bite into my door. This is the best pic of the door damage that I got. ![]() After driving it with the white stipes on my doors for a long time, it finally got old. So May of '07 I decided to wet sand the clear coat to get rid of the stripes. then buff, then polish etc. Well I got the the scars to go away but not the dents ![]() Now the problem was that the paint on the door didn't match the rest of the car because it was so shiny. So I got a little carried away and wet sanded, buffed, polished the entire car! ![]() ![]() That is how it sat until november

Nice. I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes a shiny jeep.

At the end of august '07 I started stock piling parts.
Ordered up 1.5" tnt shackle, 1.75" spring spacers, Rock Krawler long arms, RE monotube shocks, JKS trackbar, JKS quick discos, tnt frame stiffenerz. RE hack n tap sye, front xj driveshaft, full pack 3.5" lift leaf springs ![]() Those parts all sat till thanksgiving break '07 I parked the jeep in my friends garage and got to work. ![]() Thats only about half of the garage. and the room to the left, in front of the trans am is a bathroom in the making. "Lucky" My friend had a lot of tools at my disposal so everything went fairly well this is his new baller tool box ![]() ![]() ![]() had to make a little modification to my long arm brackets, since now they dont exactly fit because of the frame stiffeners. So I lopped off one "wing" of the mount and just welded 'em on. ![]() Got the jeep back onto all 4 tires the night before thanksgiving. then took thanksgiving off from working on it. and did a final alignment that fri. and went wheelin sat mornin at the cliffs before driving it 250 miles back to school on that sunday. ![]() ![]() that day my friend had a little mishap with his yota, but actually there was no damage. ![]()

BTW that happened, when he did something that I walked over right before. Also there is more to the terrain than you can see in the pic.

this weekend I was home from school and went to the badlands. Ran all of orange and all of green without an issue. With the last hour we went back to the quarry and and I had a little incident
I was able to get up double bump just fine ![]() And I was also able to get up this wall over by the pond But right after I got up it, my pas. side rear tire went flat. I ended up cutting the side wall of the tire. I had a full size spair but, it was only an all terrain. I also got into my driverside front fender a little. Now there is a slight crease just under the blinker. So since the day was basically over anyhow, I called it a day just so nothing bad would happen. Ninja edit, I lost the roof rack. Got some fat cash for it, and I no longer fit in the garage

Because I didnt want to be 200 miles from home on this without a spare tire
![]() I decided to take one of these back to school ![]() Sunday morning though before I left. These got dropped off in my garage ![]() thats 5 33x12.50 R15 BFG MT's. Just in time, since I now needed tires. I wasn't really planning to mount them yet, but I guess plans have changed. ![]() I have spring break starting this fri. so they will get mounted when I'm home. Just have to decide what rims to put 'em on now.

Awesome jeep dude.
How are those sliders? They're my fav, cause they sit nice and close to the body. Also, I have a giant scratch on the back of my liftgate, and I touched it up with the wrong paint. ![]() How hard would it be to re do it like you did?

The sliders are awesome. they've payed for themselves over and over every time I wheel by how much body damage I would have gotten otherwise.
As far as the paint, I didn't use any new paint. I just used some wet sandpaper and a sponge and went to town. After you do this it will look worse, then you use buffing compound and a buffer. then polish. Its got a lot of steps to it though. When I did it was the first time I had ever done it, but I had my Uncle watching over me for moral support. (you need it after you see what the wet sanding does lol) He's an auto body guy. I def. recomend that if you want to do it you get someone that has done it before to help you. If not read alot about the steps and products/tools you need. Between the buffer, orbital buffer, different types of sand paper, buffing wheels, and buffing compounds plus wax and polish. Doing a job like I did could get very expensive. Lucky for me, my Uncle already has this stuff.
