My 2000xj engine will turn but won't start.
Sorry in advance for the long post, but I really need Help.
I left for work today and my Jeep was running normal(Keep in mind--more than 1/2 a tank of gas, 78,000 mi., stock). I get to work and shut it off, but find out that I was early, so back to the Jeep: Starts right up. I go to gas station across the street and shut it off, go inside waste a couple minutes, then back into the Jeep: Starts right up. So I drive back to work and get off 4 hours later: Jeep will not start. Now maybe a related problem I have been dealing with is my Left turn signal (turn it on and it would flash, but also flashes my Odometer and Temp/Comp). With the headlights on (turn on left indicator, it would just stay on((no flashing)). So I figured MAYBE a bad Flasher...I can deal with that. But this brings me back to my current problem... When I turn the key the engine cranks and has enough power in the battery to run all the gauges, radio, and everything else...However when I have the key in the ON position, everything still works; except for my gas gauge (more than 1/2 full) and my Battery Indicator gauge... Both read DEAD//but engine still cranks, just no firing up. This might mean something to someone. Sometimes the Odometer will say "no buS" and throw on the engine check light... Any help is much appriciated, because my poor jeep is 20 miles away at work and wont start.....Mike

Could be a number of things. The no bus error likely means there is a bad connection at the back of the instrument cluster. This is probably why some of the gauges don't work.
I would try shooting some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if it starts. Check for spark if you can. |

i just had this same problem in my 97, it would crank but not start. i also had the same " no bus" reading on the odometer it ended up being the electrical connector for the fuel pump ( the plug is directly above the rear axle) my connector was cracked and the insulation on the main power wire was stripped off and several of the copper wire strands were broken in half and arcing together, which blew the main fuel pump fuse( under the hood in electrical box on passenger side, small blue fifteen amp Fuse) so it made for a bad day, but on a better note i finally got to use all my recovery equipment , my father in law flat towed me back to the house hope this helps ...good luck
