manual vs automatic and more

ok heres the deal... i just scored 2 parts jeeps for nothing...ones a 91 4wd auto and the other is a 87 2wd manual... the 87 has blown rings on #1 cylinder.. the 91's body is in real rough shape...my DD is a 90 4wd auto...was thinking this......take the manual tranny from the 87 and put it in my 90. fix the motor in the 87, put in the automatic from the 91 and sell the 87...keep the 91 for spare parts...what would be involved in swappiing and auto to a manual and a manual to an auto.....just tring to figure out what i would could do...thanx

mike

The only thing I'd be worried about is the fact that the '87 is 2wd. The output shaft from the tranny may not bolt up to your t-case. Drivehafts might be another issue. You would also need to swap the TCU from the '90 into the '87.

Good Luck,

Peter

Yeah, unless that 2wd tranny has a removeable tailshaft, it probably isn't able to be used with a 4wd vehicle. Beyond that..... I'd keep your DD as it is and take the 2wd, put the good motor into it and make that into a real daily driver and your current one as a trail rig. Maybe even stroke the 2wd so that it is a real fast daily driver. Mmmm, fun!

was thinking about that....but would probally end up just fixing the 2wd and selling it to get some money for more goodies for my 90...don't know yet....it all depends on how froggy i feel one weekend...either that or fix up the 4wd and give it to my bro-in-law and try and get him away from his k10..dunno....we'll see what happens..
