Loud Noise on accel and decel

OK so first post here hope im in the right spot. Anyways i have a 96 jeep cherokee sport and within the last 2 weeks i have had a lour very noticable noise comming from the rear of my jeep. It happens when I hit about 10mph and then its non stop, backing up even. I thought it might be my weel bearings but want to get more info before i start cranking nuts and bolts and bust knuckles

If you need anymore info let me know.

Could be the pinion bearings, u-joints, wheel bearings it's hard to say without some more diagnosing.

If you don't feel comfortable, have a mechanic do this.

First get under there and see if you can shake the driveshaft. If it has a bunch of play, there is a bad ujoint(s). See if you can wiggle the pinion with the driveshaft disco'd, that will tell you if the bearing is in bad shape.
Then, I would pop the diff cover off. Look for metal shavings and such in the fluid that will come out. Check the ring gear, spiders, pinion, etc. for wear / pieces missing.

If your drivehsaft isn't turning while your jeep is rolling you have some serious issues, unless someone has installed locking hubs on your jeep.
