lots of pops coming from front end
hey everybody
well ive gone to 35s, and it seems that other then going through hubs a little quicker, that im getting a lot more "noise". i dont know if its u-joints or what. but i seem to be getting a lot of pops when doing slow turns. mostly in parking lots. drives fine if im doing over 10-15 MPH. but sounds god awful pulling into 90 degree parking places from time to time. i do have a locker up front. but this isn't a rythem ratcheting nose..itll just POP....POP. POP randomely. some days its fine, and other days its almost embarrasing ![]()

What kind of locker is it in the front? I would think it is probably that. You might need to change your gear oil if you havent in a while or add some LSD additive.

i had all sorts of bad pops before i went to a front 44. i had a popping, kinda occasinal creaking noise coming from my trackbar mount being a little loose.
and my lower control arm bolts were a little worn and allowed some play which contributed to some popping noises when braking/accelerating.

Give it a good lube job! Mine did the same thing. Hit all the grease fittings and it's all better!

I have similar gremlins I've been trying to chase down for years...........I've narrowed it down to creaky Balljoints and/or tie rod ends......it's like a "POP CLANK!" I can almost predict when it will happen. Everytime turning into a parking spot and then the same backing out....
I suspect the BJ's more since upon replacing them the noise changed...but did not entirely go away....I then replaced the draglink, tie rods and rod ends just to have the Pops not change. Try tightening down the tie rod ends and see if it helps..then try tightening down the BJ's and see if the noises change. I've loosened my tie rod ends and BJ's and the sound got worse...so..... I upgraded to the TnT Ylink and this REALLY helped...but the gremlins are still lurking. I think the kit re-aligned the front better but the steering just isn't built for big meats.........steering upgrades are so $$$ and most have "issues"... so in the mean time...... ![]()

Loose swaybar links at the axle mount will definitely do what you are saying.

even with the swaybars disconnected it does the same thing...seems like its more from the left side...hubs??....but theyre brand new
whats the best way to check for worn ball joints...jack it up and give it a wiggle |
