long arm knocking

Hey all,

I just had an RE6300 long arm kit installed about 3 weeks ago on a 98 XJ and when I picked it up after the install, I heard some slight knocking around underneath the driver side. I almost sounds as if the arm is banging against the joint in some way.

I took it in 10 days after the pickup just to keep the 90 day warranty valid. 3 weeks later, it sounds like there's some knocking around on the passenger side, quite a bit more noticable. It's not loud, but it is noticable and I'm wondering if this is normal or ... what? It makes the knock (sounds very similiar to the engine knocking when you get bad gas) when I hit bumps or go down the highways and hit slight constant bumps.

Anyone have an idea if this is common, normal, noisy, bushings, etc...? Any help much appreciated.

Sounds it could be the bushings or loose bolts.

So I take it, it's not normal.

Check the adjustable control arms. The jam nuts can come loose and cause a knocking sound. Knocking sounds are not normal for a normal suspension cycle. Check to ensure everything is tight. When do your hear the knocking? Bumps, turning, etc...??

Yeah, every time I hit a bump, a speed bump, or turn w/ a bump, or a slight bump. I hear it.

When the jam nut on one of my upper control arms was loose I experienced this same sort of noise.

Anyone know of any sort of mechanical schematic that might show the parts of such a lift (RE6300) so that I can identify the jam nuts and other parts?

I didn't find anything on rubicons site.
