I'll be doing this over the summer. And it's not expensive. I cant remember the site off hand (its saved on another comp), but I recall pre-wired LEDs w/ resistors for 12v use for only 1.29 each. Thats about 20 bucks for all of the bulbs I'll need. They're brighter, whiter, and longer lasting than incandescent - theres no reason they aren't worth it.

Just remember you will lose your dimmer function if you do this mod...but then again you guys want it BRIGHT since you're going to LED.

Well, you can dim LEDs cant you? Just a lot of wiring work. I never use my dimmer anyway. I LOVE the look of bright dash lights like in newer Euro cars.

EDIT: These are the LEDs I'm looking to get Linky

93XJLI- the site i was looking at wanted $7 for each dome light bulb and i think $1.50-$2.50 for each of the 5 instrument bulbs...plus shipping i was looking at $40. do you have the other website off hand?

88XJSport- in one of the threads i read, it said that the dimmer function was not lost...which it shouldnt be lost if you are just replacing the bulb, right? correct me if im wrong

Edited previous post. For my gauges I'll be getting something like this: Linky

LEDs that are made to fit directly into the sockets are obviously more $$, if those are what you are looking at. The ones I linked to need some splicing done, which I don't mind doing as I will be added more lights and switches and switches with lights and other glowy shtuff.

96 and older. screw the pre-wired crap, get 12v 168 leds from superlumination.com

you do NOT lose the dimmer function, although its more of "off, dim, bright" then anything else.

there are now led blocks out there designed for dome lights. They have dummy bulb bodies that fit into the existing bulb holder, but have a board of leds that you stick to the lens.

I think i'm going to try that for the dome light housing.

right now, i'm using one of these:

stuck to the outside of my dome light housing, with a hole drilled thru the lens to route the wires into the dome light.

i did gut the internals of the housing to get to the 3 pin socket inside though.

no, it would actually be easier to just cut off the dummy bulb and just wire the wires to the contacts.
