land rover rear hatch ladder?
i drove by a parked land rover yesterday and noticed it had a ladder on the rear gate. i only saw it briefly but i thought to myself, that would be a cool project as i plan to install a roofrack and highrise seat for scouting. i have found some pics on google images and there seems to be a few different styles. anyone done a project like this, installing one on their xj? i would love to see a writeup.

Gobi makes a rear hatch ladder. Looks pretty slick, but they're kind of pricey.

Saw a writeup with pics on forum somewhere where thay had fitted a ladder.
Id be concerned that the tail gate hinges & lock wouldnt be good enough to sustain long term use of a ladder. Maybe if the bottom of the ladder locked onto the rear bar with a quick release mechanism like a tyre carrier and just hinged off the top of the tailgate. Probably better still if it was hinged on a roofrack tho ... with a couple of poly guides / blocks for the ladder legs to slide on while the tailgate raised. |

im thinking of fabbing one. the gobi is awesome however, i am currently working on getting my rigidco rear bumper with tc installed. so the swingarm of the bumper wont allow a full length ladder like the gobi. i want to make something that basically attaches above and below the rear window. just a couple of rungs will be quite relieving on the act of getting onto the roof.
