Knocking
I have a knocking sound coming from what sounds like my drivers side floor board area. A mechanic told me it was a rod-knock and my pistons are going to shoot out the side of the block within the next year. Could it be something else hopefully more simple? Thanks.

Get a second opinion. You should be able to hear the knock speed up and slow down as the engine RPM changes. You may have bad motor/trans mounts. Open the hood, start the engine, put your foot on the brake HARD. Put it in gear and press the throttle while looking through the gap betwwn the hood and cowl, the engine may move up a little, if it jumps, or moves a lot, it is a mount loose/broken.

Turns out it was a loose track bar. Fixed.

That's quite a bit different.. I'd be looking for a new mechanic.....

Glad it was that simple. I'll bet that shop had large glass doors in front. They saw you coming.
