just finished major cooling system overhaul, still overheating...

i just finished replacing a block plug, water pump and various hoses on my 95 4-banger. everything works superbly but its still overheating. is this an issue with the thermostat? a deeper problem? i've taken it on a few shake down runs and it overheats after 25 minutes. if i turn the heater on full blast, the warning light goes off.

thanks in advance for your help!

if you changed the waterpump you should have gone ahead with the themostat. I would also check the fan clutch. If those dont do the trick then the radiator.

I would change the t-stat and radiator cap also. Did you flush the system well? You could have a blockage somewhere. And like stated above if the fan clutch hasn't been changed in a while I would change it also. Is it overheating at idle, or going down the road, or at all times?

Major overhaul??

Water pump and some hoses?

Major overhaul:

Flush radiator, heater core, clean out overflow.
T-stat
Water pump
Fan clutch
All Hoses
Heater Valve - replace or omit
Belt

Check e-fan, and a cap.

i've noticed it at all times, going down the road and at idle sitting at a light. i guess the t-stat will be the next thing to change. thanks all for your responses!

That is what I would do, and I would flush the system very well while it is out.
