Just bought a 2000 classic..Cruise not working

So I had a shift in job duties and work and now need to commute about 140 miles a day once or twice a week.....the YJ is no longer ideal for this so i decided to buy a better daily driver....one with ac and cc So I found a killer deal on a 2000 classic with only 77k on it. Its in excellent condition and am stoked to have found it. A few minor glitches....the most annoying is the CC doesnt work. When I hit on/off sometimes the cruise light comes on and then goes off. Sometimes it never comes on at all?? What should I check into?? Would a broken line cause the light to shut off or would it be a module?? Please help as I want cruise for monday's drive

And of course I cant leave this beast stock gonna throw a little lift and some custom bumpers on it down the road :O)

Start simple and look at the vac line under the hood first. Should be on the pass side fender near the firewall.

I checked em but did not find any cracks or leaks?? Plus the cruise light doesnt stay on, it comes on briefly then shuts off......which leads me to think its more electrical than vac lines?? I would think if it was vac lines that the light would stay on but the cc simply wouldnt work?

I just did a search on the clockspring and it appears that symptoms usually indicate a bad horn as well. I checked and my horn still works?? Could it still be a clockspring?? Im gonna remove the switches here in a few and see if the switch is cracked?? Also going to check the brake pedal switch??

so here's an update....checked the lines and they are good. I think I have ruled out the clock spring as everything else that is usually affected by a faulty clock spring, still functions fine. Yesterday on a little road trip it actually turned on and ran for about 3 minutes and then shutoff. Most of the time when I hit the "on" button the light never lights up on the dash. Then sometimes it will but usually shuts right back off??

any other ideas??

someone out there has to know how cruise control works?? please

#1) I am trying to figure out if a cracked line would cause the dash light to not turn on sometimes?

#2) if the horn works, no abs light on the dash, and all other steering wheel controls work, is it still possible to be a bad clockspring?

#3) if it's electrical, where do I start looking?

when my clockspring was going out, at first the cruise would work sometimes and then not work and then work again also my horn worked all though that time

so here's an update. Replaced the clockspring with one from Jeepsareus and same exact problem. Ripped the dash apart to look for a faulty wire somewhere but nothing?? Replaced both switches in the steering wheel and the cc servo, and same problem. It works sometimes and other times no light at all?? It looks like it coming down to the PCM possibly??? Any other ideas??

thanks
