Junkyard headlight harness?

Has anyone upgraded their headlight harness by using a junkyard one? It seems an old full size chevy or ford would likely provide a decent upgrade over the xj harness, unless corrosion is an issue. Just throwing that out there...

You can piece togther a upgraded harness that will use relays that would be better. Look at the upgraded headlight threads and there are links to the DIY HD harnesses.

I went that route and never looked back. Still running strong years later.

The eAutoworks.com harness is $18, including the relays. IMO, not really worth the time to pull a JY harness when you can make or buy one so cheap. FWIW, my eAutoworks.com harness has been in for around 6 months and works great.

It's just an idea I was kicking around. It would be easy to connect the xj relays to the relays of a batter harness, so it's a dirt cheap option with minimal effort.

Any factory lighting is going to have the same weaknesses as ours- age, small wiring, and circuitous routing. They sell upgraded harnesses to the truck guys as well, for the same reasons.

TJ wiring is slightly heavier gauge wiring .... slightly

Upgrade looms are as cheap as chips in the states ... not worth bothering with junkyard parts imho.

The 3 pin headlight connections on a jeep are no different to any other brand vehicle ... so the upgrade kits are easy any way.
