Jeeps broken....again
Ok now my jeep will not start unless the gas pedal is depressed. it will turn over until you press the gas, then it starts immeadiately. it runs fine, as long as you have the gas pedal depressed. the second you take your foot off the gas it dies, no matter the engine speed or mph. right now its parked in the driveway and i want to drive it again. hopefully its something i can fix myself. im thinking fuel pump or maybe TPS or something?

Do you have any trouble codes? Have you tested any other the components? How many miles are on the rig? It could just be a clogged fuel filter.

yup, sounds like your not getting enough gas on idle. check or replace fuel filter. might be time for tune up too. also check air filter, ive seen a dirty filter that was not letting enough air at idle.....
good luck

This happened to me when I left my dome light on overnight, had to jump the car and keep the gas on too keep it running. I drove it around the block for a solid 15 minutes and it ran fine afterwards. Check out the IAC.

113k miles, no codes so far, nothings been tested. im in the process of moving right now and was using the jeep to move a bunch of junk out of our basement so i dont have time to test stuff. Its got a brand new K&N drop in filter, and where is the IAC located?

Pull the throttle body and clean the underside and idle/solenoid passage with a spray carb cleaner.
Sounds like just a dirty TB. VERY TYP.

When my ign coil went bad, it did the same as yours, no code as well. Stock replacement should only be around $25-35 bucks and an aftermaerket around $50. Try that and if it doesn't work return it!

ok still havent had a chance to trouble shoot it, but yesterday after a long run in the rain i returned to my other vehicle (a 97 toyota avalon) and started it and then saw the freakin check engine light light up and stay on.
so i was kinda angry, when i got home i figured with the way things were goin with vehicles i might as well try to start the jeep again.....and it freakin started! but it ran horrible, really rough. i revved it a few times, and it would hesitate then it seemed to rev fine. it just had a really, really rough idle. it seemed to be idling at a low rpm......hopefully this helps someone out in giving me a better idea of what to look at when i get a chance to work on it.

Go to Autozone and get the code read for free and then trouble shoot from there. You are probably lucky it threw a code and now you can more easily narrow it down now.

I just unlugged the IAC, blew the dust out, then the problem went away.....so far....

Well p&^% on the Toyota then ![]() When ever I have had an ignition coil go bad it feels "slow". Power won't be there and then suddenly, BAM!, like a rocket. Weirdest thing in the world. I kind of thought the clutch was bad for a while and then i looked under my hood and saw the coil acting like a 4th of July sparkler.
