Jeep Rattle

Sometimes my jeep (2000 cherokee limited, 4.0L, bone stock) will rattle when stopped and in drive, it sounds like its coming from the rear of the jeep kind below the trunk? Sometimes its loud as hell, sometimes it wont rattle. Sometimes If i pop it into neutral it stops, sometimes it goes away to the point where you have to be real quiet to hear it. What could this be? And ive gotten under her while running, while i can hear the rattle in the interior, and i cant hear a thing from outside. helpppppppppp

Could be the transfer case linkage....its a known issue...

But that wouldn't explain it if it were coming from the rear

transfer case i fixed already, ahahha thats one of the many odd noises i fixed, and in terms of an exhaust hanger, it looks fine, at least the one i can see, the weld is in tact and the little rubber bootie is still rubbery, its not too cracked and corroded

Jump under it when its cool and start shaking the exhaust see if it makes the noise.

It's the exhaust hanger above the rear wheel. I had the exact same issue and fixed it this evening. The rubber gets worn and the hole ovals out...and allows the metal hanger to vibrate in the mount. It sounded like it was under the cargo floor and mostly did it when the car was cold. Solved!

If the catalyst in yor CAT is broken up, you can sometimes hear an intermittent "rattle". Once you get going, the exhaust noise can mask it. Whack it with a deadblow and see what you hear.

its probably the tailgate. If you open the tailgate you will see these rubber stoppers on both sides that the tailgate is meant to close on next to the tail lights. Mine were all cracked and nasty. This caused the tailgate to rattle at stoplights. I got new ones, adjusted them (they twist out) so the tailgate closes tightly against them, and haven't had the issue since.
