you could get some sound deadener for the inside of that and then cover it up with some fabric. That would help keep it quiet inside.

Yes, that sucker will be LOUD in the rain...lol. Also, more heater hose for the roof edge, make the cut nice and clean (and no sliced fingers), keep the theme and it is cheaps too.
Looks kool, good idea.

wow, this is one of the sickest builds ever.... So many cool aspects of it. Firstly it is one of the most creative things on this forum. Secondly you are flying... I haven't seen any project where I can check back every day and see a lot of progress! Keep up the good work. Also I love the theme... you need a ARB bumper, tire carrier, limb risers and you are set for "safari/camper" vehicle. It would be sweet if you could fab an integral full size rack that moves with the top... it would also give some strucural integrity. Keep it up!

I appreciate the comments
![]() I was just thinking about the rain factor the other day haha. I have one week left before college and this is my daily driver, so thats why its moving so fast. Its off the road currently and im using my fathers jeep to get to work and back (thanks dad). But I needed to take a break today and went to see that new movie grand trino. I enjoyed it very much so Anyway, I really do need to get this thing back on the road for my trial runs.. I have a feeling im going to have a month or so after its "finished" to squeeze all the issues out; water, noise, etc... But all im looking for now is drivability and it being some what leak proof. My heater hose has a nice look and presses pretty tight against the body.. but thats not going to keep water out at 20 - 60 mph. Ill have to figure something else out thats more flexible to stick to the actual roof inside to prevent water leakage. There are also some major hinge issues that i have to tend to. The hinges are currently to tall to go between the roof and my wood mounts. But I have already figured out some logical solutions to the problem and they will be mounted tomorrow evening. I hope to have pictures up by tomorrow night of the pop top mounted, and fully working. ![]()

Again, excellent thread.
Gran Torino = best movie ever next to Forrest Gump Definitely THE most unique thing I've ever seen. Good luck finishing in time, from the pace you've gone so far, doesn't seem like you'll have any trouble. You should take those stickers and mod them to say "Jeepfalia"

could you bend the edges of the roof up about 1/2 inch up just inside where the hose sits. this would keep the water from dropping in.

take a look at this Honda Element...http://www.ursaminorvehicles.com/camper.htm to see what they did on the interior, it may be a little late on yours but you could easily make due.

I was thinking close to the same thing. Rivet an L-shaped lip on the roof, just on the inside of the fiberglass top. You would then have two sides to match to, the bottom and the inside. When the roof was closed it should fit tight to the roof and the L-shaped lip.
You could make perfectly matched rounded corners by removing some of the material of the bottom of the 'L' and curving the bracket with the bottom part of the 'L' on the inside. You could also attach the canvas to it. I'm babbling.....I hope that makes sense..... |
