I was thinking about the aluminum strip on the other side, but I had another person helping me and we could barely line up the two pieces as is (due to the back piece not having the same shape!)... We actually had to push down and flatton the front portion of the roof out and connect it one rivet at a time. That took about 1 1/2 hours in itself just trying to line everything up. Its definitly a hard shape to work with, im just glad that portion of the project is done.
and as far as the roof rails... that would be a perfect way of doing it, but for me, its too late. For the 'low profile' look, im litereally bringing the top right down on the rails leaving no room to place the brackets other than directly on the roof. BUT, the rails are a perfect sealent to keep water out of the sides. I am also extremely excited haha... I never thought i'd be doing this. I honestly dont know what ive gotten myself into.... ![]() Thanks for the suggestions!!! and I would love to see some pop tops on some cherokees!!! Theres so many different ways of doing this, its incredibly fun.

when the paint dries that is going to look really good. I think you should just take work off completley and put everything on hold in your life and finish this

I see now how the sides set right into the gutters. But, the canvas top will need to be attached to the roof in some manner. I'd use the existing roof rail mounting points for this. That just leaves a bridge piece you'll need to make across the rear span to hold the canvas top down. You'll probably want to incorporate this into the rear latch for the top as well.
Keep the pics coming! |

You should anyways... they're much cheaper than wranglers, lift, lock, drive, beat, swap all the crap over to a new body when the first one is finished!
You know, the best thing about this mod is that it probably costs close to nothing (in comparison to a body chop for example). The most expensive part will be the support frame/cage.

Another thought, I don't know how tight the trails are that you wheel, but you may want to think about something that will protect the top edge, here in the pnw the top hat style roof racks/drip rail protection is a really handy thing to have,

lol well, maybe its just an "era" thing beacause I'm only 18 and the VW Bus was before my time iirc, but let me be the first to say....
![]() ha don't take it the wrong way, because I know that this is your Jeep and I appreciate the quality and hard work you're putting into this, but it's not something I personally find as an interest to me. (doesn't seem to me like the final outcome will outweigh the work that was needed to go into it.) IMO- Why not just-![]()
