If you are near a truck stop, you can pick up replacement lights there that are identical to the ones on it.

i think if you are going to have any lights at all on it, they should be off road lights. otherwise, leave them off. it would just look cleaner that way in my opinion.

millhouse has the right idea!
thats actually what im hoping to do. I like the red lights in back, but the orange in front just yells out 18 wheeler/big o' camper/wth is that?? lol Plus both sets of lights are smashed, and the plastic was so old, it crumbled when I touched them. I would have to purchase all new lights... but I would definitly consider putting the 5 red back in the rear. I also have four KC Daylighters... I use to have two on the rack and two on the bumper. VVVV ![]() But I want to be able to put the two back on top, I just have no clue how yet. Im thinking I might have to build something that attaches to the westfalia roof, cause that has to move forward and up when it opens, and theres no room for the lights seperate from that, unless the lights where to move with it. Anyway, Im uploading some pics as I speak.

Ok, so I woke up early this morning and had a fresh start on the project. The reason its taking so long is due to the fact of sanding, waiting for the silicone dry, and waiting for the paint dry. Its all trial and error so far with fitting and trimming the roof, and the rest is just waiting for things to dry up enough so I can continue working. Everything says 24 hour dry time... and thats in good warm conditions... Its about 10 degrees here... so its hard enough keeping the garage atleast at 60...
![]() Ripped out the lining and excess canvas... ![]() ![]() Found some more broken pieces! yay!!! haha... ( it looks like who ever owned it also had some issues with the roof :X ) ![]() Cover the vent hole. Going to install a new vent later on.... ![]() ![]() Had to build some supports for the brackets that the roof will be piviting on. Reason for this is due to the issue that my top rails on the cherokee are actually in the direct spot where the brackets were located. And since im keeping the rails on the cherokee for sealing reasons.. Ill have to move the brackets in towards the center about an 1 1/2 to 2 inches... ( I think this will also be a little stronger) ![]() ![]() ![]() Silicone

I wonder if you would have been better off to rivet the aluminum strip on the inside and lay some epoxy gel coat over the outside seam? Perhaps on future versions. Looking great!
Also, any way you can create a mounting system that will bolt directly to the existing threaded receives in the factory roof rails? It would be totally trick if you could build this whole thing and make it compatible with factory mounting points! You have a 98, so I believe your factory rails runs the full length. I'm getting so excited to see how this things turns out. Also, if it were me, I'd redo all that wood inside with oak or maple. Teak would probably be overkill.... |
