Fiber glass is not as fun to play with as I thought. All those years of not smoking, and one night of this is probably just as bad as smoking four packs of menthols...

Anyway... Fits pretty good. Sides are about perfect, and the front's pretty tight as well. When I get the rubber around it, itll look a little better too.

If anyone has photoshop and wants to paint that thing black real quick and real post, feel free!!! and while your at it... can you wash my truck in photoshop as well :P

We should just make this a sticky NOW! I'm in total agreement. This is a FANTASTIC idea! If you perfect it, I would easily spend a grand and put one on my Cherokee. I'm betting there would be many, many more like me as well.

Please, keep posting!

I am a big fan of the westfalias. Mine could go anywhere and we all went camping all the time. We've been building vw's here since I was 15 but we only have two sand rails left. after three years as my DD, i decided to get rid of the vw and my caravan (winter vehicle) and purchase one vehicle as a summer/winter DD. Thus the cherokee. I didnt realize how much I would fall in love with the jeep...and the reason this project means so much to me is because of the impact my older van had on me. Of course, its not the same.... but its the best I can do!!!

anyway, i just purchased some logo's on ebay...

Dude...
One of the most original ideas I have seen yet. I had friends in a Toyota Land Cruiser club in Vancouver that all had Maggiolina's, they loved them but all paid like $4K for them (ouch). I think yours will be kooler for 2 reasons:

1: Home Brewed
2: Vanogan's especially Westies rock

Stoked to see the end product. Keep posting, will definitely follow this one.

For reference...

I gotta tell ya, this is by far one of the coolest mods I have seen so far for an XJ. Cannot wait to see how it works out.

And OMG those bumper mounts.

I don't own an XJ, but...

I have a 1969 Jeep Wagoneer that has been my camping vehicle for a few months...picked it up for the right price and with only 49,500 original miles...

Anyways, I'm really digging your project...looks great, fits well, and it looks as if it will be Plenty strong. My Wagoneer, being a bit longer and wider than an XJ, might be an excellent candidate for such an interesting conversion.

Great job with the build, And the build thread

Nathan.

Honda elements get converted by this company like the old westies/riviera's

http://www.ursaminorvehicles.com/

looks like you are on your way to a cool rig, keep posting the pics I am curious to see the finished product inside, not nearly as much head room as a westy, but the extra space would definately be nice for camping.

As a former owner of mulitple Westy's I think this is a great idea. I've had these same conversion thoughts about every Jeep I've owned....

Changing the color is no problem, but as for washing it - I'm no miracle worker ...
