actually, I was thinking about it... Maybe I can make some kind of bracket coming from the a pillars that the light can connect to that would push the light far enough in so the snorkel wouldnt be an issue... But i just dont really care to see my lights in front of my window. Ill see what I can do. I might start that tomorrow as well.

you may also be able to find decently priced weatherstripping at an RV repair / supply company.

For fabric to line the top ,I used some ordinary felt my wife got me from a joanns fabric store to cover the inside of a camper I had on my last truck. with some super 90 spray glue it stuck very well. the felt went around corners and bends easily and came out looking very good.
I love this idea i have owned several old popup camper buses and can relate to your desire. Keep up the good work.

Great idea man. And I second the idea of having a lip that come up on the inside of the top to keep the water out.

I will be following this thread! You have a lot ingenuity and some balls to cut that roof. Mad props go out to you!

Consider it CRAWLED.

Yeah, looks like it, but he's trying to sort out all those different minor things I'm sure.

I can think of a couple major steps left;
Interior cage/structure (already got part of that done with that roll bar?)
Tent folding
Some kind of insulation and a cloth cover
Inside lip/seal
Still need to fix that crack?
Hammock

Those are just pertaining to the project itself, past that you want to build some kind of protection and somewhere to mount your hella's, right?

I don't think this would work on a rig built any less than yours, I mean it's not like you're starting from a basic cherokee, you've already got a VERY nice foundation, therefore this mod doesn't seem out of place at all (despite being incredibly unique, experimental, and innovative)!

Awesome work.

If it fails, or you don't like it, you can always install a skyslider canvas setup in it's place.

Great idea.

That was in the tractor supply parking lot. I was picking up some bolts for the rear roll bar which I just finished installing. Pretty simple obviously.. its nice having something that was already built. I wanted to take the pictures to show what the roof will look like on a normal basis.

P.S. When I took the picture.. it was 10 degrees out side with a wind chill of -8? or something like that. I drove it down the highway at about 55 mph and had no troubles staying warm. Tonight I also drove it through a small snow storm. No leaks (not of snow anyway) and all the snow has melted off, still with no leaks.

I went and looked at some more fabrics.. I also found a replacement vanagon canvas for this exact pop top for $135.

Pros...
Made for the roof, has the zip down windows (like a tent), Will save tremdous time, same color on both sides

Cons... A lighter grey (I think it might be too light).. I really wanted to use black, about 50 - 70 bucks more (if I do my calculations right), Takes a week or so to be shipped here, Not as water proof as the materal i found and not as thick.

- - - - -

And the back has a gap on each side because the back of the cherokee actually comes in just a tid bit more then the front, where the fiberglass is perfectly square. But the rails on the side keep the water out, and after I add my additional seal and water proof canvas, im not too worried about it.

Should be able to dye the canvas, and then re-water proof it.

does the canvas just fold up on the inside of the roof? I mean, if so; it wont be visible most of the time, and it may look good as a two/off-tone scheme.

Did you solve the cracked/cut top problem then? You say it isn't leaking, so I'm presuming you did fix it...

Slick project Arbs. Check this link, it'll get you fired up again. I'm thinking you could beat the heck out of their price and give em a run for the money in the market.
