I have a pair of those new IPF H4's on the way here from Dynatrac.
Super high output and no rewiring? We'll see...
I'll post a report on this thread and compare them with the Hella Optilux "50%" bulbs that came with my Euro conversion kit from Susquehanna Motorsports.
just hope you follow through. cant even count how many open ended threads there are on this forum. And people still ***** at people for not 'searching'.
I would be keeping a carefull eye on your wiring. Those bulbs pull a true 80watts on low beams which is enough to melt your stock wiring. I know they say you don't need a harness but I can sell ya 110w low beam bulbs and tell ya the same thing.
I'm running some 80w low beam/100w high beam bulbs and I'm running a harness. Lots of light and the bulbs were less than $20 a set.
I suspected that and I'll be checking with my guy at ARB (plus the folks at Dynatrac) and see if he or they can find out what sort of amps those things are pulling. And I'll check with some other SEMA friends who will know if any customers have had a mighty melt-down yet.
And I realize 80 is pushing the limit. I have an upgrade kit already sitting on the shelf in case I need it.
I know Joe Mechanic could sell these without an implied warning and get away with it (considering it isn't an OEM piece... caveat emptor).
But would a well-known, global company with a well-known, global distributor take a knowing risk of selling a product on such a large scale if it was so prone to destroying vehicle wiring? You would think that word would get back pretty quick and their lawyers would pull the product, remove the "no wiring upgrade needed" wording from the literature, or recommend a wiring upgrade/application warning prior to installation. Class-action sucks if you are on the receiving end!
They have to know these things are being installed in conversion kits for race/on track applications. Depending on the class and rules, not all those guys can upgrade their electrical systems.
Plus all the ricers out there who throw any piece of s*** on their bling machines...
Then again... factory Jeeps aren't designed to be running off-road/motorcycle bulbs!
And then again... I told my ARB rep what I am running and my vehicle application. He said it was okay and he knew of one of their Wranglers running them. So I can always kick his a** and then flick him in the back of the ear while he fixes it!
And at 3090K, I'm not expecting miracles. I am really curious if these do what they say. I'll prove it or bust 'em for the benefit of the rest of us. It will be a purely subjective interpretation of the results though.
Everything else in your post is pretty much true from what I've experienced. Good stuff.
If you have a harness sitting on the shelf you might as well install it. Even if not just for the safety factor but you'll definatlly get a lot more light using the harness with those bulbs.
And the statement they make about not needing to upgrade the factory harness is a pretty vague statement really. I'm sure if it came to suit they would pull out some fine print somewhere that said not all vehicle's stock wiring could handle it but in "most" case a harness is not necessary.
I had those bulbs to go along with my h4 ipf upgrade. They were amazing bulbs, I also upgraded the wiring and it was well worth the time and money. To bad I had to sell the jeep.
