Interior lights stuck on?

Hey everyone,
I am having an issue with all of my interior lights being stuck on. My vehicle is a 1999 XJ. I checked all of the switches on the doors, removed them, and they seems to be ok. I don't have the switch on where the headlights are, haha. I was thinking maybe because of the rear hatch it is not going off, but I do not know where the switch is for that. Anyone else have this problem and fix it? Only way I was able to get it to go off was pull a fuse out but now I have no power locks or gauges. I have left the 4 switches for the doors disconnected from the wires.

Edit: (Just read the post closer i have no clue) try the knob you pull for the headlights. If you turn it all the way in one direction or the other it clicks and the lights either stay on or go off. It happened to me once.

Thanks for serving for the country

if you push on the the rear cargo light it is also a switch that controls the interior lights

My 92 did this.....it ended up being a door switch.

I had to remove them all and clean them, I also swapped thier placement (driverside to passenger).

Start with the driverside switch since it is used most often, try swapping it with the passenger side.

easy to see if it is the switch in the drivers side door, put the key in the ignition if it beeps with the door closed then it may the switch or the door hinge is not allowing the door to close properly.

X2
My 3yo son is always crawling in the back and pushing this button. Have to go through the entire vehicle and turn off the radio, wipers, heater, etc.... Genetic payback for the SAME crap I did to my dad over 30 years ago!

The point I am at right now, I have removed all the switches from the doors. It was my understanding that when they are removed, it is the same as them being pressed, like a default. The only switch I fail to find is the one in the hatch. It seems to be build into the latch for the hatch. I also did check the rear light and clicked it a bunch of times, as well as open it up and checked the switch in there. All seems well with it. I got fed up and just removed all of the interior bulbs so that they can not go on at all. No idea what to try next. My best guess is somewhere in the miles of wires, one spot may be fried and is touching a hot wire and that is why they are just always on. Every once in a while all the lights flicker. A few months back, I had the problem with them all staying on, and it just went away. It's got me stumped!

Forgot to include that I also did take the entire latch assembly out of the hatch, and checked it to make sure it is all good. Nothing seemed to be wrong with it, or the wires going to it.

That fuse also controls the radio, and locks. Have any problems with those? Does the radio reset? My 92 did that, turned out the ground wire was busted off the radio and was touching somthing else.

Also, try pushing the button on the liftgate end ceiling light. That shuts them off.

jahlborn, I think that you are talking about this, and I have checked it. I just did not know exactly what it was called. It the the light you can press if you have the rear hatch open that is between the rear speakers on the roof.

Oh yeah my bad, totally skipped over that. I don't know what else to do, time to start checking wires. I'd start up by the headlights swith, my guess is those wires are touching, bypassing that switch, or bypassing in one of the doors right up next to the pins.
